Shoo! Away with ye cold sores!

Shoo! Away with ye cold sores!

All those years of suffering have not been in vain. I used to get cold sores about twice a month, I would be lucky if I went more than a month without one. Yes, I did feel sorry for myself. I hated them, I hated how they made me shy away from the world. But enough about that. I've finally done it! I've found the one and only thing that works! I've done everything from applying lemon balm to the more extreme: supplementing with butylated-hydroxytoluene. None of that worked.

"Yuk. This looks like a sales page, what am I buying?" I can hear you say in disgust. So what's the catch, why am I not giving this info away for FREE?

Just hear me out :) There's always a catch, but I'm sure you won't mind this one once you finished reading, it's a really small one in any case. I'm trying to make ends meet and every little bit helps. This tiny contribution will really change your life and you'll be helping me reach my dreams of becoming a Doctor one day.

I know that sounds cheesy, but I really do. My heart breaks when I see someone suffering from a cold sore. They must think I'm an absolute freak as I rush over to tell them about this amazing remedy that just works! Note to self, tone down the enthusiasm.

You'll be pleasantly surprised when you find out what works and later will be crying tears of joy as your cold sores become a thing of the past!

It really is exciting though! I tried this without any hope of it succeeding and it just did, no matter what I ate, how stressed out I got. Day after day, month after month, year after year. I never think about having an outbreak anymore.

What do you get?

I haven't shared this secret on my blog. You'll be pleasantly surprised when you find out what works and later will be crying tears of joy as your cold sores become a thing of the past! I'm not going to give you wads and wads of information to go through! I always dread buying ebooks online as I know they never get to the point! It's not multiple products you have to buy or a serious of hoops you have to jump through. What I'm offering is plain and simply what works, that's it!

Once you've completed your purchase you will be redirected and you will know within seconds what you need to get and do to never have another outbreak :)

It's not complicated, you don't have to change your diet. As I've mentioned before in my blog, I think far too many of us poor souls have tried to limit everything from the sun to what we eat which could trigger an outbreak due to a weakened immune system! The total opposite we've been trying to achieve. None of that, grab a handful of cashews and munch on them like you never have before. You won't be scared anymore!

Learn the Secret!

Payment is made through PayPal so it is completely safe and secure! On top of that, if you not happy for what ever reason, I'll very promptly refund your $5. No questions asked. If you've tried this before (which is unlikely as you wouldn't be here) or if it simply didn't work. Just ask for a refund and ye shall receive! Promise.

Still not convinced? Just read some of the comments below.

Once again, thank you so much for reading my blog, from the bottom of my heart.

Yours truly,
Rose x

In the exact same spot I always get these damned things, a bump was even forming :( I quickly paid and got the info I needed from you, rushed to the store and grabbed some of this stuff, it's nice and cheap (bonus!) and started applying it before I was even done paying! Went to bed expecting the worst, sorry but I had little faith. I woke up this morning with nothing on my face, N.O.T.H.I.N.G! I'm so grateful I could just kiss you right now! THANK YOU ROSE!

I wanted to see if [removed] is getting more attention on the web. It really does work, I don't consider myself a "sufferer" anymore. I can't remember the last time I had one (+3 years). Now that my lips aren't being bombarded with blisters, I've started applying tissue oil and noticing a nice improvement on some scarring I had as a result.

avatar

Rose Bailey

Thanks Jesse, sorry I had to edit your comment. It would have made my sales page redundant! ;) Glad you don't suffer anymore. I also have some scarring, I am.. was a picker :( Luckily it's not very noticeable. Always found myself subconsciously touching my lips. I think the OCD kept trying to check if an outbreak was imminent! Still find myself doing that from time to time and have to remind myself I don't have to anymore! Haha

Dear Rose, I ordered this for my daughter who unfortunately suffering constantly with cold sore outbreaks. Using Zovirax, but its still happening. She tried everything, Abreva doesn't work either. We will give this a try.

L-Lysine

L-Lysine

One of the most popular supplements associated with cold sores is L-Lysine. Your pharmacist may have even recommended it to you already. The idea is that it works by retarding the growth of the virus and inhibiting viral replication. You may have also been told to increase foods high in L-Lysine and reduce foods high in L-Arginine.

This may very well worked in lab conditions. But did it work for me? Unfortunately no. I've taken up to 8000mg a day (out of desperation) and have also applied it topically with a hope and a prayer. I've experienced no benefit in frequency or duration of outbreaks.

So why does this supplement seem to work so well for some individuals and not others? I'll get to that in a bit, but first let me give you a brief background about L-Lysine.

It's an amino acid that forms part of all the proteins in your body and is critical to your health. It is a macronutrient which your body cannot produce, so you need to include it in your diet. Studies have shown that L-Lysine is vital for proper immune function and I think this is the main reason some people may have a positive result when supplementing with it. I believe these people may not be getting adequate amounts of the amino acid in their diets, causing their immune systems to run less than optimally which sooner rather than later results in an outbreak.

Should you take this supplement? Some would say if you not getting enough in your diet, then yes. I however on the other hand say no, it's a complete waste of money. Not because it's toxic and there's probably not much harm in taking it. But it is really easy to get adequate amounts in your diet by just eating properly! With the correct diet we get so many other nutrients all which have a knock on effect at improving our health. Our immune systems are very complex and unfortunately singling out one nutrient as the silver bullet is not the answer especially when we don't fully understand how everything works together synergistically.

Bottom line, if L-Lysine does work for you have a good look at your current diet and see if you need to make any changes. If you don't see results, don't worry. Please don't start drastically changing your diet. You are probably getting enough L-Lysine, any more just won't have an affect. Increasing your L-Lysine whilst reducing L-Arginine could also end up making things worse. We need both of these amino acids to support a healthy immune system. It's all about balance.

Also haven't had much luck with lysine. Any success I attributed to placebo effect or I don't think it wasn't a cold sore to begin with.

Keeping it Frosty

Keeping it Frosty

I'm sure many of you have tried this simple remedy. The first sign of a cold sore you go rushing off to the freezer to get a cube of ice, diligently holding it in place hoping with everything you got that nothing will appear! I've read countless others have tried this over and over with success, but does it really work? If it doesn't work 100% of the time, were those actual cold sores forming? I'm not convinced.

The theory behind using ice to stop a blister forming is that, at colder temperatures everything from biological to molecular processes slow down and at absolute zero stop. To quote Sheldon on one of my favourite shows.

-273 degrees, which is the temperature that entropy reaches its minimum value

So cooling the cold sore down should stop or at least slow down viral production? Correct. But in effect you are just hitting the pause button. Everything in that region slows down, your immune responses, cellular repair, everything! So in my opinion you are just delaying the inevitable and probably prolonging the episode. This has been the case with me as I've never been able to prevent a cold sore using this method. I will admit that it takes the pain away for a few minutes, but that's it unfortunately!

Using ice for bruising and swelling, well that's another debate altogether, but I would love to hear your opinions on how effective this remedy has been for you and your cold sores!

All the best!

Hi Rose! Id love to chat with you about a TV segment I'm working on about cold sores. Please shoot me an email when you get a sec.

Asymptomatic or Symptomatic?

I find it really sad that there is such a stigma associated with cold sores. One of my worst memories of an outbreak was in junior high during a biology class. I always read ahead of class and was dreading this day as I knew it was coming. This was probably the reason I had such a bad outbreak. We sat down and our teacher instructed us to open our textbooks and announced we would be discussing sexually transmitted diseases. Herpes came up, and with that HSV. When everyone clicked there was shuffling and silence. Everyone had turned towards me and was looking in disgust at my cold sores. I never hated cold sores so much as in that moment!

Anyways, let me get to the point of this post. What is the difference between asymptomatic and symptomatic? Those who suffer from visible outbreaks on their lips are unfortunately symptomatic to HSV-1 and in some cases HSV-2. Those that do not show any signs of an outbreak are called asymptomatic. But what am I getting at? People can be infected with the virus and still go through the shedding phase whilst not showing any symptoms! The virus can be passed on without the unsightly festering cold sore.

The virus can be passed on without the unsightly festering cold sore.

It is estimated that over 80% of the population, which is probably a lot higher are infected with the virus. They just don't know it. I really wish my teacher mentioned this in class, it would have been a lot less painful! So if you are feeling down because of your cold sores, just remember our bodies are more reactive to the virus. I wonder if there is a correlation to an overactive immune system (people that suffer from autoimmune diseases like asthma, allergies, vitiligo etc...) and weather you are asymptomatic or not. That would be an interesting study.

Oh my goodness, did you say earwax?

Oh my goodness, did you say earwax?

I'm sitting pondering deep in thought about this one and shake my head in shame. Yes, I meekly admit that I have tried this one (a few times just to be sure). But I blame it on the countless that have testified to its effectiveness!

This is what I like to call the snowball effect and it's the only reason these half brained remedies are still around. One person tries a product/remedy states its effectiveness for millions to see. The only ones bothered to respond are the ones that it was effective for (which is usually coincidence, i.e. their cold sore was just a phantom) and it creates one big snowball that gets bigger and bigger!

There is no scientific evidence for this remedy. Who ever came up with this, I take my hat off to you. You must be laughing yourself silly with the thought of thousands smearing their own (I hope) earwax on their lips. I've tried this more than once and it has in no way effected the duration of the cold sore or the healing time even when caught really early.

So, I don't want to hear from anyone that thinks this remedy works. I want to hear from those who it hasn't worked for! We need to nip this really old wives tale in the bud before it really gets out of hand!

Happy Valentines

Happy Valentines

Here's wishing everyone a very happy Valentines with the one they love, and most importantly that you are outbreak free during this time. I can't think of anything worse during the "kissing season" than having a nice festering cold sore on your lip (sorry for the image). This is usually the case for me and this time just makes me that little bit more self-conscious.

Just some advice, I personally don't follow so I may sound a bit hypocritical. Chocolate is considered a trigger for outbreaks, so try limit the amount you eat. But how is that even possible when you are bombarded at every corner with these delicious, scrumptious and mouth watering treats? It seems that the seasons are always approaching sooner and I'm not sure if the stores are confused but Easter and Valentines seem to be overlapping. Making abstaining from chocolate twice as hard!

Yes you may have realised, chocolate is my kryptonite. Every time I try quit it, the cravings come back with a vengeance. I have however made my choices slightly more healthy by eating less processed forms of it. My new favourite treats are these raw chocolate brownies which are more than enough to satisfy even the sweetest tooth. They make snacking on them feel so much less guilty. I can't get enough of them! But I digress.

Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body and with regards to cold sores, it is well known that magnesium relieves stress

As far as chocolate being a trigger for cold sores, I must say that I'm not 100% sold on the idea, but you know very well I am biased. I for one haven't really noticed an increase in outbreaks when consuming chocolate or a decrease when not. I have gone from binging to long cessations without this heavenly substance. Raw cacao is regarded as one of the superfood gods, whilst there's a lot of conflicting research on this, it is one of the highest sources of natural magnesium you can get. Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body and with regards to cold sores, it is well known that magnesium relieves stress and we all know that stress is one of the biggest triggers for an outbreak. So if you are going to indulge, just keep in mind the darker the chocolate the better. Enjoy.

Artificial Sweeteners the bitter sweet

Artificial Sweeteners the bitter sweet

Don't worry, this post isn't about losing weight. Artificial sweeteners have come under the spotlight as a major trigger in cold sores. Many have reported that they've felt the onset of a cold sore within as little as 10 minutes after consuming one of the variants. You either love them or hate them. Most people love to hate these products and it's easy to see why with the amount of banter floating around the internet on how bad sweeteners are for you. The natural sweetener Stevia hasn't even been spared this rap.

Anyways we are not here to talk about whether they are good or bad for you, but you may have guessed I am going to talk about whether they can cause cold sores.

I came across this when I thought I had put two and two together with my investigative "prowess". I had hopped onto the sweetener band wagon (you all know about my sweet tooth) in an attempt to lose weight. I remember drinking a diet cola when I felt that all to familiar itch. I knew it, a cold sore was forming. I felt the rage build up inside of me which I let subside with a few deep breaths whilst I collected myself. I delved into the net again to see if my new diet soda could be the culprit, and lo and behold I was greeted with countless testimonies on how people have suffered the same fate when consuming their favourite sweetened beverage.

I was so angry with myself, with pursed lips and a glare that could kill, the poor little soda can was tossed into the bin half empty. I then went onto a cleaning spree and tossed anything out of the pantry that had even a wiff of Aspartame in it.

Days and months went by that I drank unsweetened, dull and uninspiring coffee in the morning. Until one day I tried a new fruit juice. I remember thinking something didn't taste quite right even though it said 100% orange juice. I read the label again and saw that it had "Lite" in italics next to it. In disgust I thought "what is this world coming to, freshly squeezed orange juice stripped of it's natural sugariness and replaced with chemicals to save a few calories". Then it dawned on me! I could almost hear the theme tune of Jaws playing in the background, I thought a cold sore was about to strike at any moment! I waited anxiously, but nothing happened. I was surprised that the stress of waiting for one did not cause an outbreak in itself! To my relief and hours later, I knew that one was not going to form.

The next day, I thought I would try my luck and add a sweetener to my coffee, nothing. No tingling sensation and most importantly no cold sore. I did this for the remainder of the week increasing my intake as I became more brave. Just a side note I'm not an advocate for artificial sweeteners and I'm pretty sure you would be better off not using them. Anyways, I started to feel a bit silly especially after telling my friends that suffered like me to avoid Aspartame like the plague!

It's not the gospel if you've read it online and my blog is not exempt

So where did this connection to sweeteners and cold sores come from? I see it happening on the internet all the time, there are so many people online that coincidences are becoming a common place (i.e. the more people that play the lottery, the more likely someone will win). From the countless testimonies I read, there were many wanting to find out if there was an association between cold sores and sweeteners. This is what I like to call a snowball affect as patterns may seem to emerge from random causes. These people like myself thought they had made a connection, comment and spread the word blowing it completely out of proportion. The fact is, the stress of thinking you may get an outbreak after consuming a sweetener is more likely to cause a cold sore than the soda you drank.

Moral of the story, don't jump to conclusions too quickly. It's not the gospel if you've read it online and my blog is not exempt. Make sure you do your own research. Trying to control our outbreaks is hard enough whilst trying to jump through hoops put in place by false rumours.

P.S. Valentines is just around the corner, I'd just like to wish everyone and their significant others a very special day :) I'll be posting about whether chocolate can cause outbreaks, and what you can do about it. Tell then!

I couldn't agree more, I also thought Aspartame could be triggering my outbreaks until I did my own investigation sans Google. Great blog by the way! x

Thanks Penny! I know, I think we all have to be a little bit more weary about what we read online.

Indole-3-Carbinol

Indole-3-Carbinol

Indole-3-Carbinol (I3C) is a phytochemical found in cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and cabbage. This compound has many benefits, with hormone balancing being the most studied. However what caught my attention a few years ago was that a clinical study showed it was effective at inhibiting the virus from reproducing.

Human and monkey cells were infected with a strain of the virus resistant to Aciclovir. I3C showed that it was able to block reproduction of the virus by up to 99.9%. This was fantastic news, I had found the holy grail to curing my pests for good, or at least keep them under control without resorting to prescription drugs. At the time I was suffering from another outbreak and usually dive deep into the web to find the next best cure!

I immediately headed down to the drug store to obtain my bottle of I3C made by Solal. I remember thinking it was quite pricey, especially when added to the growing list of chemicals (the bottled "nutrients") I take to try prevent my outbreaks. But if something worked effectively and was safe, I would sell the house to get it! Hopefully it never comes to that :)

5 months on I3C, and sadly I noticed no benefit. I had 2 or 3 outbreaks during that time and the recovery period was the same. 2 weeks of pain, embarrassment and disappointment. I think any placebo effect had been washed out by my pessimism in constant failure with the countless supplements, herbs and remedies I've tried. I really thought this one would work though.

I'm sorry I can't offer better news regarding this compound, but I suggest leaving this one on the shelf. It's proven all the time that lab results don't always hold up in the real world and I3C treating HSV is no different I'm afraid. If you've had a different experience I'd be glad to hear it! I've been using it for a year and it started working almost immediately at 400mg daily. I would highly recommend trying it. It may not work for everyone but thats how these things go.
